And when specific planning and design, no detailed demonstration was done in strict accordance with the planning principles and procedures, and specific programs and practical measures matched with the overall planning department, with the following results.
a. repeated design and modification due to unclear actual needs and lack of necessary conditions for feasibility, not only resulting in wasted costs, but also greatly extending the construction cycle.
b. The server rooms that have been built and put into use are not fully utilized, and the reasons for this are either because there is no foreseen amount of business demand, or because the conditions of the server rooms do not meet the needs of users and must be re-optimized and modified before they can be used.
c. The functions envisaged in the planning cannot be realized, such as the system availability cannot reach the planning level, the cooling solution does not support the planned high power density of the racks, the generator does not support the continuous operation conditions of the system, and the excessive planning makes the system energy consumption index PUE remain high.
The industry, especially the planning and design staff generally focus on the equipment light system and focus on the local neglect of the big picture phenomenon, mainly in the following ways
a. first determine the equipment specifications and models and even manufacturers, and then select or modify the design plan according to the equipment.
b. The power supply system is designed according to the highest available level of 2N redundancy, but the result of the design is that only the UPS system has 2N functions, while the entire power supply system has single path failure points.
c. The entire system is designed for the highest level of redundancy and fault tolerance, but the air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is a single-path power supply.
d. The system is configured with an AC backup energy diesel generator, but the generator does not have an automatic start function because the planning designer lacks the awareness that continuous cooling is also an important condition for continuous system operation.
It is very important to improve the system integrated design capability to complete the planning and design tasks in a quality manner.
a. In the process of data center construction, there are a large number of data centers that do not meet the business and maintenance requirements due to inadequate consideration of the planning and design of phased and specialized implementation stage projects and the interface between different specialized construction, and some problems even require large investments for renovation before completion.
b. Different designers only focus on what they are responsible for, and lack global consideration on whether other professions are perfectly connected and whether there are contradictions and conflicts with other professional designs.
c. Lack of accurate grasp of future business development by planning and design personnel, and insufficient consideration of late capacity management and expansion.
d. The planning and design personnel are not familiar with the surrounding resource environment and physical environment, and the designed solutions may have poor implementation feasibility or bring insurmountable difficulties to the later operation and maintenance work.
